Butte College students selected Dr. Michael Lodewyk for the 2023-2024 PTK Teacher of the Year Award. Dr. Lodewyk, a dedicated chemistry instructor, began his tenure at Butte College in 2010 as an associate faculty member and became a full-time faculty member in 2015. The award was presented at the College’s 55th Annual Commencement on Friday, May 24.
"I can’t begin to tell you how excited and honored I am to have been selected for this award," Dr. Lodewyk remarked after receiving the award. "The fact that it is a student-driven decision makes it so special."
Dr. Lodewyk is known for his passion for academics, which uplifts and inspires his students. He uses his extensive experience, knowledge, and intelligence to create engaging and accommodating materials that cater to the diverse interests of his students. His approachable demeanor and eagerness to help foster a comfortable environment where students feel heard and encouraged to be curious.
Beyond his innovative teaching methods, Dr. Lodewyk is also celebrated for his commitment to recognizing and advocating for each student. His support and faith in his students' potential significantly impact their academic journeys, making him an invaluable educator at Butte College.
